  • Learning from a professional guitar teacher is definitely the fastest way to progress because they can provide you with a roadmap necessary to improve. Our teachers work to organize and sequence information specifically for you and can help you build a practice at home. They’ll also adapt to your learning style and musical interests, making it a fun and engaging customized experience.

But you also want to consider your personal learning style, musical aspirations, social interests, and needs for structure.

Some people thrive with private guitar lessons while others much prefer to learn in a group class or play in a band. At Loudlands, we make all those learning pathways possible through our private lessons, group class Guitarist’s Roadmap, and our band program Heavy Chemistry.

  • How fast you can learn guitar depends on various factors such as your goals, dedication, practice routine, and previous musical experience.

If you want to learn guitar fast it’s definitely important to work with a teacher. If you’re a total beginner you can expect a certain progression of your learning as long as you stick with your practice.

In the first 1-3 months you’ll learn technique, open chords, basic strumming patterns, and some beginner friendly songs. Try to target 15-30 minutes of practice per day for the best results and rate of progress.

In months 3-6 you’ll move to a slightly more advanced level by focusing on switching between chords smoothly, improved rhythm and timing, exploring riffs and melodies, and beginning to compose, solo, and improve your listening.

In months 6-12 we really dial things up. At this stage you can start focusing on the songs you love, expand your understanding of music theory, and explore more varied genres of music.

In the end, practice is the biggest factor that determines how fast you can learn guitar. If you’re a beginner, start with our absolute guitar basics guide.

  • Absolutely not! Iin fact, it's a great age to pick up the instrument.

    Here's why:

    • You’re a little older, a little wiser, and you know what you like. You can dedicate more focus to the music that interests you and be excited and passionate about your guitar learning.

    • Adults often have better focus and discipline compared to younger learners, making it easier to stick to a practice routine.

    • You likely have a clear idea of why you want to learn (e.g., playing your favorite songs, joining a band, or personal enjoyment), which keeps you motivated.

    • Playing guitar can be therapeutic and help you unwind after a long day.

    • Guitar gives you an opportunity to express yourself musically, which can be incredibly fulfilling.

    • Joining a group class or playing in a band can be a great way to meet new people or bond with others.

At Loudlands, we work with a ton of adult beginners. You’ll be right at home with our crew and can meet many others just like you who are exploring getting involved with music in your 30s.

  • It totally depends! Most music schools offer guitar lessons and classes that are either 30-minutes, 45-minutes, or 60-minutes. We offer all three versions for our private lessons and our group class, Guitarist’s Roadmap, is a 60-minute weekly class.

One exception for us is our band program, Heavy Chemistry, which meets weekly for 90-minute rehearsals. For a premium experience, students can also pair weekly rehearsals with a bi-weekly 45-minute private lesson with one of our teachers.
